  •  Accident and Emergency

Emergencies take priority at our medical centre, for acute needs that you may have otherwise resulted in an Emergency Department visit, we offer a walk in service during hours to utilize our purpose built treatment room.

Some examples of this may included lacerations requiring suturing, undisplaced fractures requiring plastering, abdominal pain or early pregnancy bleeding just to mention a few.

  • Immunisations

Immunisation or Vaccination is an important public health measure which prevents many diseases from causing significant sickness in individuals. Prior to widespread availability of immunisations many preventable diseases such as Measles could result in serious infections and death or disability.

If you have any concerns about vaccinations we encourage you to discuss these with our friendly doctors who are happy to explain in detail the benefits and risks of immunisations.

Fortunately, as the vaccines have evolved they are now safer than ever with minimal side effects and Australia has a comprehensive vaccination program which is free to Medicare Card holders and all Government funded vaccination are supplied free of charge at our clinic.

Even if you are not eligible for the Government funded vaccinations in certain circumstances it is still recommended to get immunised while you are travelling, there is a newborn in the family and/or you are working in the health profession.

Our immunisation service complies with Australian standards, and is fully accredited for the storage of immunisations and vaccinations

Queensland is known as the Sunshine State, and we thoroughly enjoy our weather most of the year. However, the constant sun exposure puts us at the highest rates of skin cancers in the world.

If you are concerned at any stage about any changes to your skin e.g. moles, sun spots, ulcers we encourage you to make an appointment as soon as possible.

In addition to this, it is a good idea to get regular skin checks. The frequency of these skin checks depends on your age, your sun exposure and predisposing factors, but generally as you get older more regular skin checks are required (usually annual skin checks are adequate)

Early detection is vital, and the majority of skin cancers if detected early can be successfully treated and cured.

Our doctors have access to the assistance of many Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons if needed for our patients’ convenience.

  • General Check Ups

Annual health check-ups are a great way to take stock of your health and identify factors which may be putting you at a higher risk. There is no standard health check up for anyone as family history, pre-existing illness and medication that you are on can change the review intervals. However, basics such as blood pressure, body mass index (BMI – height and weight) and waist size are important basic measurements that should be recorded for everyone on a regular basis.

Talk to your doctor about a check up relevant to your current stage in life.

  • Sexual Health

Sexually transmissible diseases are infectious diseases where the primary mode of transmission is through sexual contact. They are a major public health concern throughout the world as they can often be asymptomatic and may increase the risk of other life threatening conditions.

Our Doctors understand that sexually-related health matters are a very sensitive topic, however you can depend on the professionalism of our doctors and staff and be assured that your privacy is protected at all times. We ensure all of our patients are free to speak openly about personal issues such as sexuality, sex, smoking and drugs in order for them to recommend the best type of treatment for you.

Our well-equipped clinic allows our doctors to perform testing within the centre, including diagnostic procedures through blood tests, urine test, body fluid sample test and specific screening tests.

Regular screening is advisable for early detection and appropriate management, although there are no set intervals, it is advisable to get tested prior to commencing a new relationship and after having unprotected sex. Remember that using condoms is the best way of preventing spread of sexually transmitted infections.

Among the services we provide at our sexual health clinic include:

    • General sexual health exams
    • Tests for sexually transmitted infections
    • Tests for HIV/AIDS
    • Treatment/medication to cure Chlamydia and other types of STIs
    • Certain types of vaccinations, including Hepatitis
    • Pregnancy tests
    • Safer sex and general sex education information
    • Referrals for additional services

We strongly advise people to get tested immediately if they suspect that they have contracted an STD or STI -- an early detection of any serious sexually transmitted disease can help reduce your suffering, transmitting to others or even save your life.

  • Sports Medicine

Sporting injuries are a common and unfortunate side effect of keeping an active lifestyle. The majority of these resolve by simple Rest and Ice (RICE) principal where for the first 48 hours you rest a soft tissue injury and apply ice for 20min every two hours to help reduce the swelling and pain.

However, if an injury persists, involves a suspected fracture or causes severe pain then a medical review is warranted with relevant imaging being organised and appropriate referrals.

We are all different, with our own coping mechanisms, hence no two people react in the same way to a particular situation. Therefore, it is important for your doctor to also take an individualised approach, discuss and identify the issue and develop a management plan that is suited to you.
